Following the passing of his parents and the growth of his own children, Chong was at last free to explore the world of art and culture that he missed during the prime of his creative career.  It is said that he traveled around the world three times into every nook and cranny, constantly utilizing his amazing skill of sketching the people and environment of his travels; he could sketch as fast as others could photograph a passing scene.

Many of his travel sketches found there way into the Dailey Newspaper where he was Art Director.  Upon his retirement, it was noted that in addition to his travel sketches that informed the public and provided inspiration for his art, he provided a million pieces of art with his sketches for the betterment of the news public.
